 EXPERIENCE

"You may ask, what is an experience? According to the Cambridge Dictionary, an experience 'is the process of gaining knowledge or skill from doing, seeing, or feeling things.' (Dictionary, s.f.)

At this time, I would like to talk about an experience I had last year, thanks to a scholarship provided by the She Is Foundation. The foundation has the vision of changing women's lives through education. In this case, ten young women, including myself, were allowed to visit the Houston Space Center in Texas, United States, for a week. During this period, we faced various challenges such as coding, programming, and more."

I think after this academic immersion I have been motivated to study a degree related to STEAM. I remember before I went to NASA I did not what I wanted to study, but there I learned about all kinds of degrees, and I am convinced I want to study Mechanical and aerospace engineering.

So I want to share with you guys a little bit about this marvelous experience, and a little bit who I can related to the topic experience.

This experience was rewarding for me, as through the competition, we were able to meet the tenth graders and make new friends. My favorite hazing days were Rally Day and Comparsa Day. I liked it because there was murga, people dancing, and singing, so it reminded me a little bit of the carnival. Nevertheless, I also took some photos, because I am part of Academy Legends, the school´s magazine, so it was cool and I enjoyed taking some photos, of this special moment.

FIRST JUST THE FACT OF VISITING ANOTHER COUNTRY SHAPES AND CHANGES YOUR LIFE. TIME AGO I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRAVEL TO OTHERS COUNTRIES, BUT NEVER  BY AIRPLANE. OTHER.

OBUSLY THE MOST SHOCKING FACTS WERE THAT THOSE PEOPLE DOESN'T KNOW YOUR LANGUAGE AND I DON'T KNOW 100% THEIR LANGUAGE, BUT  I HAD THE OPPURTUNITY TO BE IN TEXAS, WHICH IS BASICALLY A STATE WITH A LOT OF HISPANIC PEOPLE AND INFLUENTIAL, AND YOU CAN SEE THIS IN THEIR LANGUAGE (  A LOT OF PEOPLE LISTED TO SPANISH COUNTRY SIDE MUSIC) THE LOCAL HISPANICS FOOD, THE BILLBORDS, AND MORE.

SOME CULTURAL SHOCK:

THE WEATHER, FOR ME AS A PERSON LIVING IN A CARIBBEAN AREA, I CONSIDER TEXAS TO DATE FREEZING, BUT TO THE RESIDENTS THERE IT WAS JUST NORMAL WEATHER, AND I REMEMBER THEM WEARING SHORTS AND T-SHIRTS.

FOOD, THEY TEND TO EAT FAST FOOD. I SPENT ONE WEEK  EATING FAST FOOD, AND I ATE FOR THE FIRST TIME CHICK-FIL-A.

LANGUAGE, I CAN PROUDLY SAY THAT I UNDERSTOOD ALMOST EVERYTHING. AND I HAVE THE CHANCE TO PRACTICE AND INTERACT WITH OTHERS. BUT SOMETHING THAT I LIKE IS THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE SPEAK SPANISH.
